Open-Silicon Joins Synopsys ARC Access Program

MILPITAS, CA, Sep 14, 2015 -- Through its OpenMODEL process, Open-Silicon constantly strives to enable customers to utilize the best technology available by providing system designers with pre-validated solutions that enable the delivery of the energy-efficient, always-on processing required for IoT applications. This process has been extended to include support for Synopsys DesignWare® ARC Processors and Sensor and Control IP subsystem in Open-Silicon's Spec2Chip IoT offering. Open-Silicon's scalable IoT SoC platform enables efficient hardware-software partitioning, custom IP integration, verification, and software development. Open-Silicon has also provided a port of the RIOT OS for the ARC EM Starter Kit which Synopsys has made publicly available. As part of this ongoing collaboration, Open-Silicon has joined Synopsys' ARC Access Program as a silicon design and software provider supporting ARC Processors. Members of the ARC Access Program have access to ARC MetaWare development tools, ARC Development Systems, and support from Synopsys that helps members optimize their services and products for the ARC architecture.

IoT System-on-Chip development is a key area of focus, and we have been using Synopsys' ARC EM processors in deeply embedded IoT applications. We recently completed a dual-core ARC EM design for a mutual customer. As a part of our IoT SoC platform, we used Synopsys' DesignWare ARC EM5D processor and Sensor and Control IP Subsystem to create an ultra-low power IoT SoC platform, which includes an IoT operating system, protocols, sensors, and communication modules."

Open Silicon has also contributed a port of the RIOT OS for the ARC EM Starter Kit. RIOT is an open source and lightweight OS for the Internet of Things. It is IoT-ready with support for many of the IoT protocols in use today. The RIOT port for the DesignWare ARC EM Starter Kit is now available from GitHub at https://github.com/foss-for-synopsys-dwc-arc-processors/RIOT.

Open-Silicon will show the demo of Industrial IoT ASIC Platform with Synopsys ARC with RIOT, Zigbee, and Sensors at the Synopsys Users Group (SNUG®) Austin Designer Community Expo (DCE), Friday, September 18, 2015.
