Mysticom and Gore Extend Copper Reach with Industry's First Demonstration of 3.125 Gbps over 25 Meters of InfiniBand Cable
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., September 23, 2002 – Mysticom, a leading supplier of high speed communication ICs, and W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. today announced at the Communication Design Conference in San Jose, California (booth #1112) the industry's first data transmission demonstration of 3.125 Gbps over 25 meters of Infiniband™ copper cables. This extended data transmission distance and superior performance was accomplished during joint testing with Mysticom's MY3004 10G Ethernet PHY Transceiver and Gore's Infiniband copper cables. The real-life tests confirmed that Mysticom's MY3004 and Gore's Infiniband copper cables together provide an effective and reliable low-cost solution that extends the reach of copper cables for applications that previously relied on optical cabling.
In the real-life application test, Gore's Infiniband copper cable link was operated at a distance of 25 meters. The MY3004 operated error-free for the entire duration of the test, which used the recently approved IEEE 10 Gigabit Ethernet Standard's Continuous Jitter Pattern (CJPAT).
"Mysticom is committed to accelerating high speed data communications with its leading edge 10G transceiver that delivers new capabilities and performance levels," said Wiren Perera, Mysticom's vice president of worldwide marketing. "Working with Gore has allowed us to deliver a high-performance, cost-effective interconnect solution for extending the reach of system interconnects based on Infiniband copper cables to 25 meters."
"As the data communications market demands more bandwidth per link, the combination of Mysticom's signal conditioning and Gore's cable technology cost-effectively delivers the length required," stated John Shaw, Gore marketing manager.
About Gore's Infiniband™ Cable Assemblies
Gore's Infiniband™ cable assemblies are guaranteed to be compliant with Infiniband Trade Association (IBTA) specifications. Gore assemblies deliver performance by combining a matched impedance cable with a monotonic loss trace. Gore's cable technology and assembly experience provide excellent performance for the high data rate requirements of Infiniband customers with 1x, 4x, and 12x requirements.
About the Mysticom MY3004
The Mysticom MY3004 is a four-channel 3.125Gbps serializer/deserializer (SerDes) device for backplane and 10G Ethernet applications. The device features Mysticom's unique Signal Quality IndexTM that is used in conjunction with adaptive line-conditioning software to fine tune five signal link parameters for optimal system performance. The device is compliant with the recently approved IEEE 10 Gigabit Ethernet Standard. It is manufactured using a 0.15-micron CMOS process and is the smallest form factor, lowest power, 10Gbps Ethernet transceiver on the market today. For 10Gbps Ethernet applications, the device connects directly to optical modules that support the XAUI interface or to XAUI-based pluggable formats such as XENPAK and XPAK.
